Our home town Volkach is a little treasure and the landscape surrounding it is wonderful and worth a visit in every season. Discover the multitude of cultural treasures around the Mainschleife and enjoy pure nature between the vineyards and meadows. On more than 150 km of cycling routes and more than 300 km of hiking paths you can get to know and learn to treasure our region.
In spring... the Mainschleife awakes to new and buzzing life. Extensive walks, hiking and bicycle tours through wonderfully blossoming landscapes allow you to breathe deeply the fresh air and lead you to historic landmarks. On your way, pay a visit to the many traditional taverns – especially now in the Franconian wine and asparagus season.
In summer... the old Main river (a canal was built past it to shorten the way for ships) offers a beautiful natural river for extended kayak and canoe tours. Also a tour on a wooden raft – with wine and food – can be a relaxing and amusing bonding experience. Cool down in the outside swimming pool or in the water park close by. Sightseeing tours by ship or guided tours through Volkach and the villages nearby are worthwhile especially during this season: Idyllic wine and beer gardens offer an oasis for hikers and cyclists. This is also the time of the Franconian wine festivals, especially the historic Volkach wine festival, you shouldn’t give a miss.
In autumn... the region shines in colours resembling a Franconian Indian summer. This is the time of the grape harvest – the vineyards' autumn leaves shine in a golden light. Have you ever taken part in a grape harvest? We gladly organise this special experience for you – just let us know! After a day's work the gourmet looks forward to the 'Federweisser' - that is partially fermented grape juice served with onion tart. Parish fairs and thanks giving celebrations among other cultural festivities shorten the time around the Mainschleife. Luce and zander turn the Mainschleife into a fishing paradise. Have a look at the Volkach festival calendar!
In winter... the beautiful winter landscapes and aromatic smells of the historic Christmas markets attract visitors from near and far to our romantic villages. Mulled wine and Franconian Christmas biscuits make for glowing faces and start the pleasant festive season. Also active people can find suitable activities in the region. An indoor swimming pool, a fitness and wellness centre as well as a big cinema in the nearby 'Mainfrankenpark' offer varied activities in the cold season.
